Printing with MSN TV

By Erfert Fenton

Browsing the Web, reading e-mail, and looking at photos online is great, but there are times when you want to print something out for easy reference too. For example, you may want to print out a recipe and keep it with you in the kitchen; print out driving directions to take with you on the road; or print out photos of your grandchildren so you can look at them anytime. Fortunately, this is easy to do with MSN TV.

Setting up
You can connect a variety of printers — from manufacturers including Hewlett-Packard, Epson, and Canon - to your receiver. To see a list of supported printers, choose this link: Compatible printers

The printer must use a parallel cable (not the USB cable that works with many of the newer printers). Some printers come with a cable, and some don't. If you don't have a printer cable, you can buy one at an electronics store or a computer store. If you're not sure whether your printer uses a parallel cable, consult the printer's manual. For more information, choose this link: Parallel printer cables

To connect your printer to your receiver, you simply need to connect one end of the parallel cable to the printer, and the other to the printer port on the back of your receiver. If the printer is supported, the receiver will recognize it; you don't need to do any type of configuration or additional setup as you would on a computer. Just turn on your printer (make sure it has paper and ink) and you're ready to go.

Printing a series of pages
Let's say you're reading a multi-page e-mail or a long scrolling Web page, and you decide you want to print a copy for your files. To print, follow these steps:

  1. Press Option on your keyboard, or Menu-Options on your remote.
  2. Choose Print.
  3. Fill in the particulars (such as page orientation and number of pages to print).
  4. To print all the pages in the e-mail or Web site, choose Print. To print just what's showing on the screen, choose Print Screen.
Choose Printing Options for additional options, including printing in black-and-white, and printing background images. For more information on print options, choose this link: Print options

Note: Your receiver might not use all of your printer's features. For example, your receiver can print at only one resolution, or level of sharpness. For more information, choose this link: Printer capabilities

Now you know a thing or two about printing. If you've read this article and still have questions about printing, take a look at the online Help for printing, or choose this link for troubleshooting tips: Troubleshooting
